"Funny Face" Yellow Dress Part 2

I have searched literally years for the perfect fabric to miniaturize this costume from Audrey Hepburn's 1957 film "Funny Face".  

It was impossible for me to find a yellow/orange floral without pink in it.  A good doll friend and customer advise me to not to be so obsessed about finding a floral without pink in it.

So I gave up being so picky and found a beautiful floral cotton lawn fabric.

This is my second attempt at this dress.  You can see my first try here.  The biggest improvement this time around was the hat.

This dress was only on the screen for a moment during the photo shoot montage.

A Sneak Peek

Here are some photos of my future fashions and patterns.  I hope to start sewing again next week.

I loved all the new fashions I made last summer, and was very pleased how they turned out.  I will be blogging about each fashion separately as I finish them.

"Funny Face" Wedding Dress

 

One of my favorite outfits from one of my favorite movies!

I am almost done finishing up the many outfits I started last year.  Just in time to start sewing for Sandra Stillwell's convention in August.

I first made this dress way back in 2006.  I think my sewing and photography skills have improved since then.

I used the same pattern that I made back then, but I refined the fit of the bodice.

Hubert de Givenchy designed Audrey Hepburn's costumes for this film.  One of my favorite things about Givenchy is many of his designs are so simple, yet so elegant.  I love the hooded veil on this dress.

My tulle is a lot stiffer than the lace that Givenchy used.

I love this picture because it shows how the veil is attached to the dress on the neckline.

I wanted to make the veil detachable, so my veil is attached to the dress by a hook.

I wanted more styling options for the people who buy this outfit.  I think this dress would look great with different kinds of veils, hats, or bows.

 Here is Oona in a dress with 3 layers of tulle.

 White Orchid's dress has 2 layers of tulle.  Oona's dress is a little poofier than the other one.

The pattern for this dress is very versatile.  This dress is made of a beautiful lace that I bought for a great price off of eBay.  I plan on making this pattern up again using some cottons.  I will post them as soon as I can.

Convention Outfits

Sigh, I always intend to blog way more than I actually do.

I am finally getting around to sharing the outfits I took to Sandra Stillwell's "Every Day's a Holiday" convention.

I had a WONDERFUL time at the convention and did very well selling my outfits.

I took only 2-4 copies of each outfit, because I wanted to take a variety of things to sell.

I will be making most of these outfits again, and will be blogging about each outfit in detail as I finish each batch of outfits and the pattern.

 

This suit was inspired by a 1951 Balenciaga creation, the hat is a pin from JoAnn's Fabrics.

 

 

 

This suit was also inspired by Balenciaga, circa 1950.

 

 

 

 

I made this Balmain suit originally in grey back in March.

 

When I found this lovely light blue fur, I knew I had to make this suit in blue.  I plan on making this outfit in cream and pink too.

 

 

 

I also made some "Funny Face" wedding dresses.

 

 

 

 

Givenchy's 1955 dress was also sold at the convention.

 

 

This dress looks so Audrey Hepburn to me, even though I have never seen a photo of her wearing it.  Audrey did love Givenchy.

 

 

 

 

These suits were inspired by my doll clothes idol Matisse.  Her work is stunning!  I stalk her blog almost everyday.  I don't plan on making more of these.
