Convention Outfits

Sigh, I always intend to blog way more than I actually do.

I am finally getting around to sharing the outfits I took to Sandra Stillwell's "Every Day's a Holiday" convention.

I had a WONDERFUL time at the convention and did very well selling my outfits.

I took only 2-4 copies of each outfit, because I wanted to take a variety of things to sell.

I will be making most of these outfits again, and will be blogging about each outfit in detail as I finish each batch of outfits and the pattern.

This suit was inspired by a 1951 Balenciaga creation, the hat is a pin from JoAnn's Fabrics.

This suit was also inspired by Balenciaga, circa 1950.

I made this Balmain suit originally in grey back in March.

When I found this lovely light blue fur, I knew I had to make this suit in blue.  I plan on making this outfit in cream and pink too.

I also made some "Funny Face" wedding dresses.

Givenchy's 1955 dress was also sold at the convention.

This dress looks so Audrey Hepburn to me, even though I have never seen a photo of her wearing it.  Audrey did love Givenchy.

These suits were inspired by my doll clothes idol Matisse.  Her work is stunning!  I stalk her blog almost everyday.  I don't plan on making more of these.

What I Have Been Doing Lately

I did a lot of sewing this Summer.  I wanted to take as many outfits to Sandra Stillwell's "Every Day Is a Holiday" convention that happened last week.  I will be posting about each outfit.

White Lace

Like in my prevous post, I wanted to use up a piece of white lace.  I love how these dresses turned out.

This dress has the same bodice as the Balmain suits that I made earlier this year.

Strapless lace bodice and bolero with a chiffon skirt.

The same dress with an organza skirt.

This is the same dress all in lace.  All she needs is a short wedding veil to be a beautiful bride.  I tried to make some short veils, but the tulle was too stiff and wouldn't drape the way I wanted it to.

 Without the bolero.

This is my Modes Royale sashed sheath in lace.  I love it!

I have one of each of these dresses for sale.  I will be adding them to my Blog Store in the next day or so.  You can email me at mrsswip@yahoo.com if you want more information about them in the meantime.

I'm Just a Little Crazy

A few months ago, I wrote that I was done with my huge batch of red outfits that I started last year.  That might not been the complete truth.

While I was cutting out the "Dial M For Murder" red lace dresses last year, there were a lot of leftover scraps.  Since one of my sewing goals is to use up all my fabric, I decided to make a bunch of different cocktail dresses with red lace bodices.

I ended up with 35 bodices.

Some dresses got white chiffon skirts, some red ones, I also made some of the dresses with tulle skirts.  I ended up with 13 different styles by the time I was done.  I had fun finding 13 dolls and 13 pairs of red or white shoes for the group shot.

This is a different version of style H.

Some of these styles are sold out.

Jackie Kennedy's Leopard Coat

I was asked to make this commission a while ago.  It took me a long time to get around to making it because I wanted to make it at the same time I was working on some other leopard fashions.

I am really happy with how it turned out.

I don't have any exact dates when these photos were taken, but I fugure they are from the early 1960's.

As much as I like this backdrop, I seam to have a problem getting it to photograph straight.

I made a little black knit dress to be worn under the coat.

I chose "Candied Lavender" Gene to be my model.  I like her hair, but I wish her makeup was a little more nuteral.

This is the first time I have used a zipper in my fashions.  It was a lot faster than sewing on all those snaps.

Because the dress is knit, and the coat isn't fitted, it fits the 16" Poppy Parkers great.

This was "Spring Morning's" first time modeling.  I think she is lovely.

This outfit fits the Tonner doll also.

Jackie Kennedy wore this coat a lot.  I don't think any First Lady would ever wear a coat like this today.

I included a hat, scarf, and gloves with this outfit.
